Karate Experience: Chief Instructor and President (Hombu Cho) Australian Chito-Ryu Karate Association. I was graded to Godan (5th Dan) and successfully passed the Shihan examination in 1995 in Kumamoto at the International Hombu. I was awarded this rank by Soke Chitose. I began training in Chito-Ryu after four years in other styles, in 1980, under Sensei Chris Brown, at Lithgow. Chris has since retired from active teaching. I was appointed Chief Instructor of Australian Chito-Ryu in 1991 after the retirement of Sensei Bill Ker.

In 1992 I hosted the Soke Cup in Newcastle, Australia. I have represented N.S.W. in kata and kumite since 1989, and have represented Australia in full-contact Koshiki competition, as well as competing in 3 Soke Cups.

I currently teach at the Hunter Valley Martial Arts Centre, a full-time dojo, in Warners Bay, Newcastle, which is also the national Chito-Ryu hombu. I travel annually to the Hombu in Kumamoto to train under Soke, ensuring a regular and direct link with the hombu syllabus.
